Eleasis 18th
H 81/L 61

Closest Patrol Today:

Captain Aito leaves in the AM for Cholnudon
Captain Ensyer arrives in the PM from Cholnudon

You awake this morning and head out on a beautiful day into the mountains. Along the way you pass a caravan that has paused for a rest.

“Hail travelers,” says a woman, “Are you from Rock Hammer Hold?”

Umberto steps up, “Yes we are.”

The red-headed woman smiles, “Wonderful. I am Geni Varren of ExoGeni Exports. Is it true that the orcs control Temel and peacefully let travelers through?”

Umberto nods, “Yes, for a price. And they appear to be peaceful at the moment.”

Geni smiles and looks over your faces, “Well if I didn’t know any better I would have thought you were behind the orcs moving in on Temel.”

A quizzical look crosses Hasimir’s face, “What?”

Geni throws back her head in laughter, “I jest. But you must realize what this will mean for business. Every caravan using the Everlund Pass will rest in Rock Hammer instead of Temel or whatever the hell those orcs are calling it. You are going to be very busy businessmen.”

The leader of ExoGeni Exports gets called away, “I’ll see you at Rock Hammer Hold tonight!”

The three of you continue your trip back home, all pondering the significance. Things are going to change quickly for Rock Hammer. The wall will need to be completed. The inn and tavern will need to be build, and homes for the Temelites need to be finished. Not to mention food, water, protection and other problem that seems to creep up from underneath every rock in the Nether Mountains.

By early afternoon you enter the Rock Hammer valley. On your left you see the dwarves hard at work on the quarry, which will bring in much needed money along with the resources for the fortification wall at the end of the valley. On the right are already evidence of housing that is going up. Master carpenter Johann Cross gives a friendly wave as you walk by. In the center, Kate and Meredith have already expanded on the garden, doubling it’s size. Quite a bustling community and it brings a smile to you.

Captain Dominic greets you at the front gate, “Welcome home Lords, I have rather strange news for you. A falcon landed right over there, on the fountain in the center of the courtyard. Attached to its leg was this note.”

Friends,

As you may know I am inside the village of Zeth’Gor studying the actions of the Broken Tusks Orcs. Don’t be foolish, the orcs are a barbaric lot, but they are firmly controlled by the strength of Karg, the wisdom of Thar, and a third. A tiefling who seems to act as either an advisor to Karg and Thar or perhaps as an emissary between the Broken Tusks and some other force.

Fear not, I have found a safe spot. I will send more reports when I can.

The Hermit

" Thank the gods he is all right. This is confirmation of our fears of the depth of organization of the orcs. We send the hermit our prayers and thoughts, be safe friend. The keep looks good, and until we have any further information concerning the orcs we should see to our duties about the keep. Check in with your people, see what is new."

He is well enough to maintain his sense of humor, signing his note "The Hermit." Honestly!

Big things appear to be coming to the keep, indeed. You know, something we should have checked on while we were digging through all of those records is to find out whether the land we currently occupy is some kind of Orc holy land. Considering what has transpired, we should make sure to do that next time we are there.

Looks at Althalus with a 'now you mention that look', "You are right, that is my fear as well. I am sure we will be in Silverymoon soon enough to check on this. The trouble with this law is how are these substantiated? Can I claim the orc land as my brethren have fallen there to orc blade? There has to be a loophole. I am going to think on this and talk to our new residents, see how they're coping with the recent changes."

You start to wander out into the valley to see how things are going and notice that everyone from the keep is out helping in some fashion. Otihand and Kelser are helping the carpenters with a house; Tian and Marina are assisting with some kids; Leera sings a ballad for a group of onlookers. Your people make you proud.

A commotion begins to brew near the end of the valley, it grows in volume and fury until is reaches your feet. A crowd of Temelites are yelling at someone. You push your way through and see Ol’ Jed, weapon drawn and holding the crowd at bay. Behind him stands Gravaar.

Shouts from the angry mob are heard, “Kill him!” and “Damn all orcs!”. Behind the old hunter you see Gravaar tense and grab the hilt of his undrawn greatclub.

Umberto moves quickly to Ol' Jed and turns to the crowd, " People of Temel! Good people of Temel! You are here because your homes were taken from you, you are here to make things anew! You see Gravaar, an orc, yes, but is he your enemy? Does the color of his skin, the shape of his brow prove who he is? He has earned his place in Rockhammer! He left his tribe, sacrificing his ways for our ways. He wants only to exist and us his ability to survive and help others. Our pantries would be bare if not for this orc. Gravaar is different, he may seem scary, but your minds are boiling from the events in Temel. If we cannot agree to let live and let live here in these walls of Rockhammer, than we are savages. Rockhammer is hope. You came here in your time of need, and Rockhammer took you in, without flinching. Gravaar came to us, seeking to start over, and he received the same. For those that have honest hearts will have a home in Rockhammer, regardless of race, religion or creed! I will stand here, and if one amongst you wishes to touch this orc, then you will do so against the will of Rockhammer. Keep your honor, stay your fears, and work to fight those who have wronged you, not your allies!" The breathes heavily, hoping not to have said too much...

The crowd is stunned at first but quickly settle down and eventually disperse. Ol’ Jed pats Gravaar on the back and the two of them cautiously walk back to the keep.

Lander approaches and places his hand on your shoulder. “Well done. You have solved today’s problem but what of tomorrow’s? Who governs these people while the Lords are away?”

" The price of power does not come without the tedious details, " the monk smiles, " Thank you Lander, that is an excellent question. We do need to establish a hierarchy. We should look at those members of the keep whom the people respect, but also are capable of doing their jobs. Any suggestions?" Umberto looks to his companions, Lander.

Lander smiles, “You have one right there,” he says pointing to a down-trodden Kevian Droverson, “might be just what he needs. He has been pretty down since the orcs kicked them out of Temel.”

" Thank you Lander, you are most valuable to us, let me know if there is anything you need." The monk approaches Kevian Droverson, " Kevian? I am Umberto Lunini, I was hoping you could help me." The monk waits a moment to gain the attention of the sullen man. " I need your help, your people are frightened and worried. The change from Temel to Rockhammer has to be taxing their nerves and I was hoping you could help me ease them. Would you represent your people? If they need something, are concerned about something or anything, they should use you as their point of contact. I think they would feel more at home if they saw one of their own involved with the goings on of the keep? How do you feel about this?"

Kevian slowly raises his head and looks up, “How can I lead them, when I failed them so miserably in Temel?”

You go on and talk to Kevian for some time and gradually build up his confidence.

A slight smile appears on Kevian’s face as he looks around the valley, “Quite the little town we have going here, if you really want me to be the mayor of the town of Rock Hammer, I’ll do it.”

[DM Note – I think putting Kevian in charge of the town is a good idea, so he will be in charge of everything outside of the keep with the exceptions being the quarry and the farming. Basically nothing inside the keep that you already have control over.]

Kevian extends his hand and you shake on the deal, “So, how do we make this official?”

" Tonight after dinner, we will gather the ciitzens and I will give a speech and such and announce that I believe you would be a fine mayor for the town of Rock Hammer." Umberto smiles and shakes his hand. " Then we can have a small celebration, a bit of drink and sweet cakes." Umberto pats Kevian on the back and goes off to make sure there is enough drink and to have someone make some sweet cakes, whatever those are.

The sun sets on the Valley and you gather everyone into the courtyard of the keep. The inhabitants, both new and old, are starting to feel pretty good about their situation in Rock Hammer. Houses are starting to get built and most of all, the people feel safe.

Umberto welcome everyone and makes a fine speech announcing Kevian Droverson as mayor of Rock Hammer. The applause starts slow, much picks up momentum and turns into a boisterous cheer.

A humbled Kevian smiles as his eyes water up.

“Thank you people.”

Kevian takes a moment to compose himself, “I would also like to extend thanks to the fine people here at Rock Hammer Hold who have graciously accepted us into their world. When Silverymoon did not act, Rock Hammer did!”

The crowd goes nuts at this point, and you are almost overwhelmed by the response.

Kevian continues, “We, people of Temel, have been through a lot lately. But like a phoenix rising from the ashes, so shall we! I challenge you to make the best of this wonderful situation and live out lives to the fullest. And I promise you, one day we’ll have our revenge on the Broken Tusk orcs!”

The crowd goes crazy again, and it does make you worried a bit about the the mindset of the former residents of Temel. Then again, looking at them, they don’t seem capable of attacking orcs.

Music and dance break out and soon the worries of yesterday are behind you. You sing, dance, and enjoy sweetcakes all through the night.
